The most efficient way to diagnose a sleep disorder is to perform an overnight
sleep study. The DCH Sleep lab is accredited by
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Since 1977, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Standards for
Accreditation have been the gold standard by which the medical community
and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities. Achieving AASM accreditation
demonstrates a sleep medicine provider’s commitment to high quality,
patient-centered care through adherence to these standards.
During this study, you will stay overnight in a comfortable, private room
designed to help you relax. A few devices will be attached to you during
this test so that our team can monitor vital signs. These attachments
are completely painless and do not require the use of needles or injections.
If you are having trouble sleeping, you may be skeptical about your ability
to sleep in a strange environment with devices attached to your skin.
Rest assured, thousands of people with conditions similar to yours undergo
these tests and have a surprisingly easy time falling asleep for the test.
These tests do not work unless the patient feels comfortable enough to
rest, which is why all the monitoring equipment is as noninvasive as possible.
Most patients eventually forget they even have it attached.
Maggie is a full-time licensed Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) through
the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Maggie works tirelessly in support of the patients
of Daviess and surrounding communities that are coming in for home study
set ups or overnight in hospital sleep testing. Staff maintaining their
own SDS credential is key in gaining our accreditation status with the
American Association of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
