Helping Hearts Hospice of Daviess Community Hospital is designed to make
coping with terminal illness easier by providing a pain management and
supportive care in patient homes or home-like surroundings.
Dedicated nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and
other help individuals with limited life expectancy maintain their independence
and dignity while receiving care and services that provide comfort and support.
Patients and their families in Hospice benefit from our compassionate care
philosophy and deep understanding of terminal illness. When curative measures
are no longer helpful, Hospice focuses on the physical, emotional, social,
and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Special emphasis is placed
on relieving pain and making the final days of life full and meaningful.
The Helping Hearts Hospice Program uses a team approach to deliver the
best care for our patients, their families, and their caregivers, drawing
on the specific expertise of each team member.
Our hospice services include:
• Pain management
• Palliative care-emphasizing control of symptoms
• Specialized nursing care
• Bathing and personal care
• Social work services
• Services of the Hospice Chaplain
• Volunteer services
• Medications needed to control symptoms
• Durable medical equipment
• Medical supplies
• Aide services available 7 days a week in patients’ homes or
assisted living facilities and Monday through Friday in nursing homes.
Certain conditions make hospice care appropriate:
• When a cure is not possible and there is limited life expectancy
(usually six months or less);
• When the goals is comfort and quality of life;
• When further aggressive measures to prolong life are no longer beneficial.
Portions of Hospice services are covered by insurance. No one is denied
Hospice care because of inability to pay. The Helping Hearts Hospice Program
relies on donations from private individuals and businesses to provide
quality services to the terminally ill.
