When you or a loved one needs hospital care at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana, you’ll be supported by our hospitalist team—a dedicated group of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who focus exclusively on patients during their hospital stay.
Hospitalists are medical providers—often trained in internal medicine, family medicine, or pediatrics—who specialize in managing and coordinating care for hospitalized patients. At DCH, our hospitalists work closely with nurses, specialists, and your primary care provider to ensure you receive timely, coordinated, and compassionate care from admission through discharge.
At DCH, we use a collaborative rounding approach inspired by the late Dr. Suresh Lohano, whose vision transformed hospital medicine in our community.
Here’s how it works:
This team-based method improves:
At Daviess Community Hospital, our hospitalist program blends advanced medicine, innovative teamwork, and hometown compassion—ensuring every patient receives the respect, attention, and expertise they deserve.
What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a medical provider—often trained in internal medicine,
family medicine, or pediatrics—who focuses exclusively on caring
for patients during their hospital stay. At Daviess Community Hospital,
our hospitalists manage your treatment, coordinate with specialists, and
ensure smooth communication with your primary care provider.
How is hospitalist care different from seeing my regular doctor in the hospital?
Unlike community physicians who split their time between clinic and hospital
patients, hospitalists are fully dedicated to inpatient care. This allows
them to respond quickly to changes in your condition, spend more time
with you, and be readily available to your care team.
What is bedside multidisciplinary rounding?
This is our team-based approach where your hospitalist, nurse, pharmacist,
dietitian, and case manager meet with you—along with your family,
either in person or by phone—to review your care plan together.
This collaborative method improves communication, speeds recovery, and
ensures your voice is part of every decision.
Will my primary care provider still be involved?
Yes. Your hospitalist stays in contact with your primary care provider
during your hospital stay and sends a detailed summary after discharge
to ensure your care continues seamlessly at home.
How can my family stay informed?
Family members are welcome to participate in bedside rounds. If they can’t
be there in person, we arrange phone participation so they can receive
updates and ask questions in real time.
