Daviess Community Hospital Acquires the da Vinci Xi Surgical system

Washington, IN, (January 10, 2024) – Daviess Community Hospital is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi® surgical system by Intuitive, designed with the goal of further advancing technology used in minimally invasive care. The system can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and enables multi-quadrant access for gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac, and general surgeries.

By enabling efficient access throughout the abdomen or chest, the da Vinci Xi system expands upon core da Vinci® system features, including wristed instruments, 3DHD visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design. As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi® system’s immersive 3DHD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient. Key features include:

  • Overhead instrument arm architecture designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually any position
  • Endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved vision definition and clarity
  • An ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, providing flexibility for visualizing the surgical site
  • Smaller, thinner arms with joints designed to offer a greater range of motion than ever before
  • Longer instrument shafts designed to give surgeons greater operative reach

The da Vinci Xi system is an expandable technology platform designed to accommodate and seamlessly integrate many current technologies and future innovations in areas such as imaging, advanced instruments, and anatomical access. “We are thrilled to be a leader in this field and look forward to continually bringing Daviess County advanced minimally invasive surgical options,” adds DCH CEO, Tracy Conroy. “The Da Vinci Surgical System is renowned for its precision, dexterity, and enhanced visualization, allowing our skilled surgical teams to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy and reduced recovery times. As we embrace this transformative technology, we are not only investing in the well-being of our patients but also in the professional growth and development of our talented staff.”

Patients should talk to their doctor to decide if surgery with a da Vinci system is right for them. Patients and doctors should review all available information on nonsurgical and surgical options and associated risks in order to make an informed decision.
