First Baby of 2019 Born at DCH

Daviess Community Hospital Announces 1st Baby of 2019

(Washington, IN) — Ringing in the New Year in a hospital bed is not what people typically plan or look forward to unless they are due to have a baby during this time. Oddly enough, January 1st passed this year without a single baby delivered at Daviess Community Hospital.

In the early morning hours of January 2nd, Brittany Underhill was preparing to make a trip to the hospital for the birth of her third child. She traveled the short distance from her home in Washington to DCH where she was admitted and prepared to deliver.

Brayden Matthew Underhill made his way into the world on Wednesday, January 2nd weighing 5 lbs, 13 oz. It wasn’t until Dr. Dennis Atienza delivered her son that Brittany learned he was the first born in 2019 at Daviess Community Hospital.

Luckily for Brayden, being the first born at DCH came with some perks. While Brittany was cuddling her new bundle of joy, OB Nurses Stacy Gray and Lindsey Zollman (pictured with Brayden in attached photo) brought in a special surprise - a wagon filled with an extra large lamb, diapers, toys and other necessities for the new mom and baby. "All the nurses and the staff has been so nice here," said Underhill, as she looked over the wagon. Brittany and Michael Kirby, Braydon’s father, are excited to take their new baby home and enjoy their new bundle of joy.

The record for births in a month was broken in August of 2018 with 66 babies born at DCH. Shawna O’Kelley Brinson, OB Manager, remarked, “We plan to grow each year to eventually exceed the record of 521 births in a year’s time. With the great reputation of our Women’s Health Center and the OB physicians here in Washington, we believe our numbers will continue to climb.”
