About Richard
Richard Shelton, CAPRC II, CPRC, serves as a Peer Recovery Specialist with Daviess Community Hospital’s Peer Recovery Services, where he provides person-centered, lived-experience-based support for individuals working through substance use disorder (SUD), mental health challenges, or co-occurring conditions.
A Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach II (CAPRC II) and Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC), Shelton draws from his own long-term recovery and extensive experience in advocacy, mentorship, and community leadership. He meets each individual where they are, offering compassionate support, personalized relapse prevention planning, and connection to essential resources and treatment pathways.
Shelton is a founding member and current vice president, ethics officer, and treasurer of a nonprofit organization established in 2020 to support recovery in the local community. Through his work with the nonprofit, he has played a vital role in launching peer-led initiatives and financial assistance programs like “Hands Up,” which helps individuals transition into work release and home detention programs.
An Army veteran and lifelong musician, Shelton brings both discipline and creativity to his role, along with a strong belief that recovery is possible for everyone. His leadership, advocacy, and deep dedication to service make him an integral part of the recovery team at DCH.
