Make a Difference Through Volunteer Services

The Daviess Community Hospital Auxiliary is a vibrant team of volunteers who serve as welcoming faces, helping hands, and compassionate hearts across our Washington, Indiana hospital campus. Auxiliary volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing the patient and visitor experience—and their impact is felt throughout the region.

What Our Volunteers Do

Auxiliary members are often the first point of contact for guests at DCH. Their friendly smiles and dependable support help ease anxiety and ensure a smooth visit for all.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Greeting and assisting patients and visitors
  • Providing wheelchairs and escorting patients to their destinations
  • Answering phones and directing calls
  • Offering clear directions to departments and rooms
  • Delivering flowers, mail, and other items
  • Performing clerical and support tasks for hospital staff
  • Helping with hospital events and community engagement efforts

Volunteer Expectations

Volunteers are encouraged to work at least four shifts per month—but additional service is always welcome and appreciated. Shifts are flexible and designed to fit your schedule.

To become a DCH Auxiliary volunteer, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully
  • Exhibit professionalism, warmth, and integrity
  • Be able to walk and stand for extended periods
  • Be physically able to push wheelchairs
  • Adhere to hospital dress code and HIPAA privacy standards

How to Join

Getting started is easy!

  1. Apply: Submit a DCH Auxiliary application.
  2. Get Approved: All applications are reviewed by DCH Human Resources and the Auxiliary Board of Directors.
  3. Train & Serve: Complete orientation and on-the-job training, then begin your volunteer service.
