What to Expect During Your Stay

Comfort, Safety, and Support at Daviess Community Hospital

At Daviess Community Hospital, we want your hospital stay to be as safe, comfortable, and stress-free as possible. Below, you'll find important information to help you prepare for your inpatient stay—what to bring, what to leave at home, and what to expect from your care team during your time with us.

What to Bring to the Hospital

You only need a few essential items for your stay. Personal belongings from home can make your stay more comfortable, but please remember that Daviess Community Hospital is not responsible for lost or misplaced items.

We recommend bringing:

  • A robe
  • Pajamas or a nightgown
  • Non-skid slippers
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.)
  • Glasses or contact lenses
  • Dentures and hearing aids
  • Reading material or small personal comfort items
  • Your insurance card and a valid photo ID

Please do not bring medications from home unless instructed. Your provider will order any medications you need during your stay, and these will be documented in your medical record.

For Your Safety

We take patient safety seriously and ask that you help us maintain a secure environment by following these hospital guidelines:

  • Observe all posted safety and informational signs.
  • Use the nurse call button at your bedside or in the bathroom if you need assistance.
  • Always wear a robe and non-skid slippers when walking outside your room.
  • Do not use personal electrical appliances unless they have been approved by our Maintenance Department.
  • Fire and emergency drills are conducted routinely. In the event of a real emergency, you will be safely guided to another area of the hospital, if needed.
  • Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited anywhere on hospital property.
  • Upon admission, you’ll be given an ID bracelet. Please do not remove it during your stay—it ensures accurate identification and safe delivery of care.

Nursing Care at DCH

Your care team may include:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs)
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)
  • Nursing students (under supervision)

A registered nurse is always designated to oversee your care. Each unit has a nurse director responsible for daily operations, and a nursing supervisor is on duty during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure continuity and quality of care.

Our team works together to provide safe, compassionate care centered around your needs.

Preparing for Discharge

As your stay comes to an end, Daviess Community Hospital offers support to help you transition safely out of the hospital.

A discharge planning nurse is available to:

  • Assist you and your family with planning for post-hospital care
  • Refer you to home health agencies, rehabilitation, or community resources
  • Help make arrangements for nursing home or adult foster care if needed
  • Coordinate with your provider to ensure you receive complete discharge instructions

You may request discharge planning directly, or your provider or family member can make the request for you.

Before leaving, please check your room carefully to make sure all personal belongings have been collected.
