At Daviess Community Hospital, we understand how important it is for babies to stay close to their families—especially during the first critical days of life. That’s why our Nursery is certified by the Maternal and Child Health Division of the Indiana Department of Health as a Level II Neonatal and Obstetric Facility.
This dual certification reflects our hospital’s ability to provide care for high-risk pregnant patients as well as for premature or moderately ill newborns—those born at or after 32 weeks gestation and weighing at least 3 pounds—right here in Washington, Indiana.
Our Level II Obstetric and Neonatal designation means that:
Our designation followed a rigorous process, including site surveys, interviews, document reviews, and verification that our facility meets or exceeds Indiana’s strict perinatal care standards.
Our nursery’s Level II capabilities allow more babies to receive the care they need without being transferred to larger hospitals far from home. This:
Our nursery is led by Miranda Schneider, FNP-C, a nationally certified Nurse Practitioner with more than 15 years of experience in newborn intensive care, obstetrics, and pediatric medicine. Miranda’s expertise ensures that babies who require extra support after birth—or following NICU care—receive exceptional, personalized care.
She works side-by-side with our obstetrics and pediatrics teams to monitor and care for newborns who need more than routine observation.
Our Level II Nursery is supported by a dedicated team of obstetricians, pediatric hospitalists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and certified surgical technicians. Every member of our team participates in ongoing professional education and high-acuity simulation drills to maintain our state-certified readiness.
We proudly care for infants who are born early, recovering from illness, or in need of specialized monitoring—providing peace of mind, clinical excellence, and compassionate care just minutes from home.
Whether you're expecting a healthy delivery, preparing for a baby with special health considerations, or transitioning from a NICU at another facility, Daviess Community Hospital is here for your family.
