Neurological Rehabilitation

Practical therapy for movement, thinking, and daily life

When a condition affects the brain, spinal cord, or nerves, everyday tasks can feel harder. At Daviess Community Hospital’s CORE Center, our neurological rehabilitation team helps people rebuild mobility, balance, speech, swallowing, and independence—one meaningful step at a time. We deliver coordinated physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech-language pathology (SLP), and vestibular rehabilitation in our outpatient clinics in Washington and Odon, Indiana, welcoming patients from Daviess County and across Southern Indiana.

Our goal is simple: create a plan that fits your life—then adapt it as you improve.

We personalize care for a wide range of neurological diagnoses and symptoms, including (but not limited to):

  • Stroke (walking, balance, arm/hand recovery, speech/swallow)

  • Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) (fatigue, gait, spasticity, balance)
  • Vestibular disorders (dizziness/vertigo, imbalance)
  • Peripheral neuropathy and nerve injuries (sensation, gait safety)
  • Spinal cord–related mobility changes

  • Strength, flexibility & coordination: task-specific practice (sit-to-stand, transfers, stairs)
  • Vestibular rehabilitation: treatment for dizziness/vertigo, visual motion sensitivity
  • Assistive devices & bracing: assessment and training (canes, walkers, orthoses)
  • Aquatic therapy: reduced weight-bearing environment; hydraulic lift chair available for safe pool entry/exit

Occupational Therapy (OT)

  • Arm/hand recovery: reach, grasp, release; fine-motor and bilateral coordination
  • Daily living skills: dressing, grooming, meal prep, home organization
  • Home safety & equipment: recommendations to support independence

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)

  • Communication & cognition: speech clarity, word-finding, attention, memory, problem-solving
  • Voice & loudness: LSVT LOUD®
  • Swallowing (dysphagia): assessment and therapy; VitalStim® available at the Washington location
We coordinate with your neurology and primary care teams and update your plan as your needs change.

What to expect

Evaluation

We review your history, medications and timing, current symptoms, and goals. Your therapist screens strength, balance, movement quality, arm/hand use, dizziness/vestibular function, speech, cognition, and swallow.

Personalized plan

Together, we set clear goals (e.g., safer walking, fewer falls, stronger voice, better memory strategies) and choose the right services. Your plan includes in-clinic therapy and a doable home routine scaled to “good days” and “low-energy days.”

Progress you can see

We track outcomes (walking speed/distance, balance scores, hand function, vocal loudness, attention/memory measures) and share updates with your medical team. Your plan evolves as you do.
