Walk for Suicide Loss & Awareness to Feature Local Speaker Amber Crews

The Walk for Suicide Loss & Awareness is more than a memorial walk—it’s an evening of connection, remembrance, and hope. This year’s event, hosted by Daviess Community Hospital (DCH), will feature a keynote message from Amber Crews, PMHNP-BC, a Washington native, mental health nurse practitioner, and mother of seven who has courageously shared her own journey of resilience.

Who is Amber Crews?

Amber Crews has lived in Washington, Indiana, her entire life. A nurse for more than 13 years, she has cared for patients in medical-surgical, pediatrics, respiratory care, cardiac/neuro, and ICU units. Today, she is a board-certified mental health nurse practitioner.

But Amber is more than her professional title. She is also a survivor.

Amber has experienced addiction, depression, and suicidal thoughts firsthand. She openly shares how she found healing through faith, therapy, medicine, and daily perseverance. Now, she uses her story to help others see that they are not alone.

“Events like this walk help stop the stigma,” Crews said. “They show people it’s okay to talk about mental health struggles and that no one has to suffer in silence.”

Why This Event Matters

Suicide touches families and communities across Daviess County and beyond. By coming together, we can break down the stigma around mental health and shine a light on hope.

The Walk for Suicide Loss & Awareness gives families, survivors, and supporters a chance to:

  • Honor loved ones lost to suicide

  • Support each other through remembrance activities

  • Promote awareness and prevention in the community

This is a free, non-competitive walk open to people of all ages. Everyone is welcome.
