At Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana, we celebrate the growth of our team members who continue to advance their careers and expand their impact on patient care. Recently, Chelsea Stoll, RN, earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization as a Family Nurse Practitioner and successfully passed her board examinations.
A Journey Rooted at DCH
Stoll began her career at DCH in 2009 in the Float Pool, gaining experience across inpatient units. In 2010, she joined the Obstetrics Department full time, where she has spent the majority of her career. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012 and later served for three years in the Education Department, onboarding new nurses and teaching American Heart Association classes—all while continuing her OB work.
In 2022, with encouragement from the late Dr. Suresh Lohano, Chelsea embarked on her journey to become a nurse practitioner. Known affectionately by Dr. Lohano as “The Professor” for her skills teaching Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) classes, she pursued her studies while raising two sons in Odon who are active in baseball and 4-H, working in OB, and serving as lead NRP instructor for staff across multiple departments.
Inspired Leadership and Dedication
“Congratulations to Chelsea Stoll on this incredible achievement,” said Shawna O’Kelley Brinson, BSN, RN, director of obstetrics and nursery at DCH. “Chelsea has shown tremendous dedication throughout her career at DCH. She has grown from a Float Pool nurse into an exceptional leader and educator. We are excited to see her continue to impact patient care in her new role.”
Chelsea credits her mentors and family for their encouragement. “I am incredibly thankful for the support of my mentors, coworkers, and family throughout this journey,” Stoll said. “It has been a privilege to care for patients and their families over the years, and I am excited to continue serving our community as a family nurse practitioner at DCH.”
Continuing Her Career in Nursery and Pediatric Inpatient Care
In her new role, Chelsea will serve families through DCH’s Nursery and Pediatric Inpatient Care services.
The DCH Nursery is certified by the Maternal and Child Health Division of the Indiana Department of Health as a Level II Neonatal and Obstetric Facility. This designation allows DCH to provide specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, premature infants, and moderately ill newborns—those born at or after 32 weeks gestation and weighing at least 3 pounds—close to home.
The Nursery team includes obstetricians, pediatric hospitalists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and certified surgical technicians, all trained to meet Indiana’s high standards of perinatal care. Families benefit from care that:
Keeps mothers and babies together during critical stages
Avoids long separations due to NICU transfers
Reduces transportation challenges and expenses
Provides advanced care in a trusted, local setting
Led by Miranda Schneider, FNP-C, the Nursery provides short-term mechanical ventilation, CPAP, specialized monitoring, and support for newborns who are transitioning out of NICU care.
Looking Ahead
Chelsea’s advancement to Family Nurse Practitioner represents DCH’s commitment to investing in its team and expanding access to quality care for families. Her new role strengthens our mission to ensure that babies and children in Daviess County and surrounding communities receive specialized, compassionate care without leaving home.
