More than 100 guests gathered on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for the 10th Annual Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Kentucky Derby Fundraising Gala, raising more than $20,000 in gross proceeds to support the Health Careers Scholarship Program.

Held at Ed Lee Chapel in Washington, Indiana, the Gala brought together community members, hospital supporters, and local leaders for an evening of celebration and giving—all while watching the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby.

A Decade of Derby Impact

Since the first Derby Gala in 2015, the DCH Foundation has raised nearly $100,000 through this signature fundraiser, supporting initiatives such as:

  • 3D Mammography

  • The Lohano Center for Advanced Medicine

  • The DCH Perinatal Pathways Program

  • ACU and Emergency Department Renovations

  • Health Careers Scholarships

This year, 100% of Gala and auction proceeds directly benefit the Foundation’s Health Careers Scholarship Program, which provides financial support to students pursuing degrees in nursing, medicine, and allied health fields.

“The Daviess Community Hospital Foundation is committed to investing in the future of healthcare,” said Angie Steiner, Foundation Director. “By attending the Gala or bidding in the auction, supporters are making a meaningful impact on future caregivers right here in our region.”

Celebrating Community, Fashion, and Generosity

The event featured live Derby viewing, gourmet dinner, bourbon and wine tastings, an online auction, and lively competitions for the night’s top honors:

  • Best Hat: Ruth Collison, Washington

  • Best Tie/Ensemble: Greg Litherland, Washington

  • “Bling Box” Winner: Lynn Goodwin, recipient of a 10-carat garnet and diamond ring donated by Disinger Jewelers

  • Friendly Wager Winners:

    • 1st Place: Shane Matthews (Washington)

    • 2nd Place: Kent Norris (Plainville)

    • 3rd Place: Simon Parsons (Washington)

Speaker Spotlight: Alicia Fields, DNP

The evening’s keynote speaker, Alicia Fields, DNP, shared her inspiring journey from one of the first Health Careers Scholarship recipients to nurse practitioner, Foundation Board President, and Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

She reflected on how the scholarship helped launch her healthcare career and emphasized the importance of continuing to invest in local students who will one day care for our community.
