When patients in our region need expert treatment for complex or chronic wounds, they don’t have to travel far to find it. Thanks to the dedication of team members like Aubrey Wagler, PTA, CCMA, WCC, Daviess Community Hospital continues to raise the bar for advanced wound care right here in Washington, Indiana.
Aubrey recently earned her official Wound Care Certification (WCC) after completing an intensive five-month training program through the University of Southern Indiana. This certification is the second she has earned during her time at DCH’s Wound Care Center, further strengthening the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based care.
“I wanted to build on my current expertise and improve my ability to educate patients about wound care,” Aubrey said. “This training was extensive but incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful for the support I received from my mentors, Valerie Dyer, NP, and Tracy Dlamini, RN, who both inspired me to follow through with my passion.”
Aubrey began her healthcare journey as a physical therapist assistant in 2009 and later became a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. While working in long-term care, she discovered the connection between physical therapy and wound healing—an insight that sparked her transition into full-time wound care.
“Taking on wound care as a full-time career has been the most rewarding transition I’ve made,” she said. “I’ve always had a desire to help individuals improve their independence and physical function. Wound care pushes me to think outside the box when developing treatment solutions tailored to each patient’s needs.”
Adrienne McCracken, RN, practice administrator at DCH, praised Aubrey’s drive to expand her clinical skills.
“Aubrey’s commitment to learning and growth has been extraordinary,” McCracken said. “After being hired as a physical therapist assistant for wound care, she pursued additional certification as a medical assistant to better support her patients. Now, with her Wound Care Certification, she brings an even greater level of expertise to every visit. Her clinical skill, compassion, and positive attitude make her an outstanding member of our team.”
