Tanisha Chamberlain, FNP-C, brings critical care expertise and heartfelt compassion to hospitalist role at DCH

For Tanisha Chamberlain, FNP-C, joining the hospitalist team at Daviess Community Hospital isn’t just the next step in her career — it’s a return to her roots and a continuation of a lifelong calling to serve others.

Born and raised in Montgomery, Indiana, Chamberlain is no stranger to the Daviess County community. Now, as a board-certified family nurse practitioner, she brings a deep understanding of rural healthcare needs and over a decade of experience in critical care to her new role, caring for hospitalized patients at DCH.

"From the moment I considered a career in healthcare, I knew I wanted to be in a role where I could continuously learn and evolve — not just professionally, but personally," Chamberlain said. "Becoming a nurse practitioner allows me to make a bigger impact by diagnosing, prescribing, and managing care in a way that can truly change someone’s life."

Chamberlain earned her Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner from Northern Kentucky University and completed her undergraduate nursing degrees at Purdue University Northwest and Vincennes University. Her clinical career spans trauma and intensive care settings, including roles in surgical, medical/surgical, and trauma ICUs at Ascension St. Vincent and Deaconess Health System. Before joining DCH, she also served as a nurse practitioner at SWDC Medical Associates.

"I love the hospitalist role because of the fast-paced environment. Hospital medicine presents complex and often rapidly changing situations that demand critical thinking," she said. "My experience in the ICU has helped me recognize subtle signs of deterioration and apply interventions quickly — skills that are essential when patients are at their most vulnerable."

Chamberlain is known among colleagues for her clinical acumen and calm focus, but she views kindness and compassion as the most vital parts of her work.

"Every interaction I have with a patient is an opportunity to show not just clinical skill, but genuine care. I want every person I treat to feel seen, heard, and respected."

Her calm presence at the bedside is informed by her own busy life outside the hospital. Chamberlain lives in Montgomery with her husband, Joe, and their three young children: Hudson, 7; Merritt, 5; and Myles, 3. Whether she’s cheering on her kids at sporting events or testing out new recipes in the kitchen, she cherishes time spent with her family.

"Family and community mean everything to me," she said. "That’s why it’s such an honor to work at DCH. This hospital is a pillar of care and support for so many families — and I’m proud to be part of a team that truly puts people first."

Chamberlain is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and maintains active credentials in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
