Step Back in Time: DCH Cafeteria Hosted 50s-Themed “Sock Hop” Lunch

Daviess Community Hospital’s cafeteria came alive with 1950s charm on Thursday, August 21, as the Food & Nutrition Services team hosted a lively “Sock Hop” lunch event that had staff, patients, and visitors smiling—and coming back for seconds.

With burgers, coneys, fries, root beer floats, ice cream, and popcorn on the menu, guests were treated to diner-style favorites that evoked nostalgia and community spirit. The cafeteria was transformed with retro décor and music, creating a festive, feel-good atmosphere for all who attended.

“We love creating opportunities for staff, patients, and visitors to come together and enjoy something special,” said Rebecca Vest, CDM, CFPP, Food Service Director at DCH. “This Sock Hop was all about great food, fun atmosphere, and a little nostalgia to brighten everyone’s day.”

Monthly Themed Lunches Continue Through 2025

The Sock Hop is just the beginning. Themed lunch events are planned each month through the end of the year—each one offering a new opportunity to enjoy creative meals, seasonal treats, and a sense of fun in the heart of the hospital.

The next event, Tropical Paradise Day, will take place on Wednesday, September 17 and features:

• 🍍 Grilled chicken with pineapple & provolone

• 🧅 Onion rings

• 🍓 Virgin strawberry daiquiris & piña coladas
