November 17, 2017 (Washington, IN) –For the last several months, Daviess Community Hospital has been working to develop strategies to address the top five identified health needs which were identified in the 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment. Those top five identified needs are: Substance Use, Affordability/Accessibility, Physicians, Obesity, & Mental Health.

DCH has formed a core Steering Committee to work on implementation strategies to combat each assessed need. The Steering Committee is comprised of several members of the community and from the hospital. Those members include: Scott Sell, Director of Athletic Training for DCH (Chair), Cara Veale, Executive Director of Provider Services (Co-Chair), Joe Wellman, Mayor City of Washington, Judge Greg Smith, Zella Taylor, Executive Director United Way, Cindy Barber, Purdue Extension, Kathy Sullender & Mallory Swartenztruber, County Health Dept., from DCH – Tracy Conroy, CEO, Keith Miller, COO, Nancy Case, CNO, Angie Steiner, Director Business Development, and several other members of the DCH team.

Each of these identified needs have a task force from DCH and the community working on solutions. To date, the DCH CHNA Steering Committee and Task Forces have accomplished the following: sponsoring the inaugural Hoosier Bicycle Classic, partnering with the Daviess County Mental Health Association, working with Purdue Extension to host an Active Living Workshop. The Steering Team remains hard at work and look forward to finalizing all of the strategies to reduce those needs. This committee is passionate about making Washington and Daviess County a healthier place to live, work, and play.
