DAVIESS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL UPDATES ENHANCED VISITOR POLICY

(Washington, IN) –Daviess Community Hospital announced details of the facility’s enhanced visitor policy which takes effect on 6/5/20. The purpose of this policy is to provide a safe and phased-in approach to visitation after restricted access due to a public health emergency (i.e. pandemic). This policy allows for enhanced social interactions between patients and their loved ones incorporating necessary safety precautions to protect patients, staff and visitors.

For Visitors to the DCH Medical Surgical Unit and DCH Intensive Care Unit:

  • 2 visitors may be identified during the admission process. These two visitors shall be the only two individuals that shall visit during the hospitalization. Only 1 visitor shall be allowed at bedside at a time.
  • Visiting hours shall be from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily.
  • All visitors must be healthy and must wear a face mask the entire time they are in the hospital—personal face coverings from home are encouraged.
  • Visitors shall not be permitted to congregate in any public areas and must remain in the patient’s room.
  • No one under the age of 18 shall be allowed to visit.
  • A parent or caregiver may stay continuously with a child receiving pediatric care—the mother, father or custodian may alternate visitation.

COVID-19-infected patients or COVID-19-suspected patients will not be allowed any visitors except during exceptional circumstances.

Visitors to the Emergency Department:

  • Visitors may be allowed at the discretion of the patient care team.

Obstetrics and Nursery:

  • A partner or spouse may stay continuously with a patient in Labor & Delivery.
  • One additional visitor may be named during the admission process. This visitor may remain with the patient for labor and delivery.
  • Visiting hours shall be from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily.
  • All visitors must be 18 years of age or older, unless the individual is the father of the baby or mother’s partner.

Behavioral Health Unit:

  • No visitors shall be permitted in the Behavioral Health Unit.

Acute Rehabilitation Unit:

  • For a first-time visitor that has not received an arm band, the staff at the entry of the hospital shall call the Acute Rehab unit. The nurse shall verify the privacy code for the patient with the visitor and allow the visitor to proceed to the unit. Upon arrival to the unit, an arm band shall be applied to the visitor.
  • Visitors shall be admitted from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM Monday through Friday and 3:30 PM -5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Saturday 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00PM.

Same Day Surgery and Infusion Clinic:

  • One adult visitor may accompany each patient for elective procedures at any time.

Ancillary Services, Medical Clinics and CORE Center:

  • One parent or caregiver with a pediatric patient.
  • One required medical decision-maker with adult patients.
  • One caregiver for patients who are unable to walk or move about without assistance.

Anyone allowed access to a DCH facility will be screened at designated entry points. Visitors who have symptoms including a fever, cough, shortness of breath, other signs of infectious process or have a known contact with a COVID-19 positive person and are in the incubation period will be denied entry.

Please note that most hospital entrances are still “exit only” with signage posted to direct visitors to the available points of entry. This policy is subject to change.
