The Daviess Community Hospital Foundation has set a goal to raise $110,000 towards the cost of a new state of the art Portable Ultrasound machine. This will be a vital piece of equipment of Daviess Community Hospital.
Why we need the Portable Ultrasound machine
During the past year, over 22,002 patients needed radiology and imaging services to diagnose health concerns, and 6,115 Ultrasounds were performed.
An Ultrasound scan is a painless, specialty test which looks at the structure of your body. A probe is placed you’re your body and a pulse of high frequency sounds is passed through the skin. The echoes reflected by the pulse show as a picture on a screen. The developments in portable scanning have radically changed the ways in which patients are able to undergo investigations into medical problems, including breast, heart, liver, and kidney concerns. They avoid having to move patients who are not in good health, either across town, or from their bed. This relatively small, lightweight machine can be moved to the patient, rather than move the patient to the machine.
This new era in equipment allows excellent assessment of the body’s function, with improved image quality that allows earlier diagnosis, and therefore, earlier treatment.
At the present time, Daviess Community Hospital does not have an up-to-date, readily Portable Ultrasound machine, and consequently, more detailed investigations are unable to be done without having to move patients. With a growing need for medical care in both young and old alike, there is a real and urgent need for this equipment.
