Procedure Title: Urine Collection

Where:
Report to Admitting Office with lab order. The Admitting Office is located in the front lobby of the hospital. Then, report to the Laboratory.
Purpose :
This test is done to detect Urinary Tract Infections.
Preparation:
Wash your hands.
Procedure:
Female collection
1. Remove the towelette from the package.
2. Open the sterile cup. (Do not touch the inside of the cup)
3. Separate urinary fold with thumb and forefinger.
4. Clean the inside with towelette. (Use downward strokes only)
5. Keep urinary fold separated during urination and void a small amount of urine in the toilet.
6. Void at least 1 ounce of urine in the cup at midstream.
7. Void the remaining urine in the toilet.
8. Put the lid back on the specimen cup.
9. Place urine in the refrigerator if not brought to the laboratory immediately.

Male collection
1. Remove the towelette from the package.
2. Open the sterile cup. (Do not touch the inside of the cup)
3. Clean the head of your penis with the towelette.
4. Void a small amount of urine in the toilet.
5. Void at least 1 ounce of urine into the cup at midstream.
6. Void the remaining urine in the toilet.
7. Put the lid back on the specimen cup.
8. Place urine in the refrigerator if not brought to the laboratory immediately.
After Care:
You may resume usual activities after completing procedure.
