Patient Name: __________________________________________

Appointment Time:
When:________________________Date:__________________________Time:________________________

Where:
You will report to the admitting office (main hospital entrance). Then report to Radiology. Someone from Ultrasound will be with you as soon as possible.
Purpose :
This test uses sound waves to take images of the Thyroid gland in your neck to help the physician safely identify the area of concern. There is no radiation involved.
Preparation:
Most medications may be taken prior to biopsy. You should not take any blood thinner or aspirin 3 days prior to the biopsy.
Procedure:
This examination usually takes about 1 hour. Prior to starting the biopsy, the front of your neck will be cleaned with a betadine or chloraprep solution. A local anesthetic will be given to numb the area. A water-based gel will be applied over the front of your neck. A plastic device called a transducer will be moved over your neck to obtain the necessary images to guide a sterile needle into the area of concern.
After Care:
You may resume all normal activities after the test. Follow up with your attending physician to discuss results. Results usually are available to the physician in 5 business days.

Please call (812) 254-8851 to talk with one of the Ultrasound Technologists if you have any questions.
