Where:
Report to Admitting Office with lab order. The Admitting Office is located in the front lobby of the hospital. Then, report to the Laboratory.
Purpose :
This test is for detecting enteric pathogens within the stool.
Preparation:
No preparation is necessary for this test.
Procedure:
Collect the stool sample into any clean and dry disposable container, or onto plastic wrap placed under the toilet seat. DO NOT let water touch the stool specimen. After collecting the stool sample place the stool into the sterile cup provided by the laboratory labeled with your name. DO NOT submit stool specimen in a diaper. For small children with diarrhea, or liquid stool, fasten a diaper liner (plastic kitchen wrap) to the diaper using childproof safety pins. After collecting the stool in this manner place it into the sterile cup provided by the laboratory. When you have completed the collection, place the specimen in the refrigerator until you bring it in to the laboratory.
