Where:
Report to Admitting Office with lab order. The Admitting Office is located in the front lobby of the hospital. Then, report to the Laboratory.
Purpose :
This test is done after a vasectomy to determine if the procedure was successful. The laboratory looks at the specimen for the presents of sperm.
Preparation:
DO NOT ejaculate (either through sexual intercourse or masturbating) for at least 3 days before collection.
Procedure:
Collect a sample in the sterile container provided by the laboratory. DO NOT collect the sample in a condom. Label the container with patients name and date of birth if not already done by the laboratory. Deliver the specimen within one hour of collection and keep the sample at body temperature (place it in your pocket or underarm). Provide the time that the specimen was collected.
