In recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Daviess Community Hospital’s Women’s Imaging Service is providing digital screening mammograms at a reduced rate to women. For women age 40 and over, a screening mammogram is one of the best ways to detect breast cancer.
The reduced rate for the exams includes the mammogram, computer aided detection, and the radiologist reading fees. Patients are required to have a physician order for the examination.
The National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society as well as other national women’s groups support annual mammography screening beginning by age 40. Several large studies conducted around the world have shown the benefits of screening mammograms in reducing the number of deaths from breast cancer. Regular screening mammograms coupled with clinical exams and breast self exams are the best way to detect breast cancer early. The earlier that breast cancer is detected, the better the chances for improved results.
