Hospice Volunteers
Helping Hearts Hospice of Daviess Community Hospital utilizes volunteers as important members of the interdisciplinary team working to provide a less institutionalized dying experience for patients and their families.
Volunteers find it very rewarding to work in our program. Many of our volunteers found out about hospice through the death of a family member or friend who utilized hospice services. Others are new to hospice.
Our volunteers provide support for patients, including visiting, reading, and being present to listen. They provide relief for family members, allowing them the opportunity to get some time away from the house. They also provide fund-raising support and clerical help, working with other volunteers to complete tasks that make the hospice program run smoothly.
Hospice volunteers must complete extensive background checks and training, so that they are able to meet the challenges of this rewarding work. Additional training along the way helps our volunteers continue to learn new ways to meet the needs of our patients.
For information about being a volunteer with the Helping Hearts Hospice program, call our Home Care Services at 254-8950 or email Jama Britton, RN, Home Care Services Nurse Manager at jbritton@dchosp.org.
