Friday, December 4th is the day to visit Daviess Community Hospital for something other than medical care--Christmas spirit. On that day, the hospital’s hospice program will hold their annual cookie walk. The event is being held in the hospital’s Education Center beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until the cookies are gone.
Daviess Community Hospital’s Helping Hearts Hospice Program provides hospice care for patients in Daviess and surrounding counties. Hospice makes coping with terminal illness easier by providing pain management and supportive care in patient homes or home-like surroundings. Nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and others help individuals with limited life expectancy maintain their independence and dignity while receiving care and services that provide comfort and support.
The cookie walk is an annual fundraiser for the DCH hospice program and for $5, participants can fill a box with their choice of home baked cookies. Proceeds from the sale are used to support hospice care for patients with terminal illnesses. Although portions of the hospice program’s services are covered by insurance, the program relies on private donations and fundraisers to help cover the total cost of services that are provided to the terminally ill.
After picking out their favorite cookies, participants can also take part in a drawing for a handmade quilt which will be given away Friday. Suggested donation is $1 for a chance or $5 for six chances.
