What is Hospice?
Hospice is a special way of caring for people who are dying. Hospice programs address the challenging and often difficult needs and circumstances of those with a life expectancy of six months or less. Services provided by the Helping Hearts Hospice Program embrace the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Who provides Hospice Services?
The Helping Hearts Hospice Program consists of a team of health care providers who work with hospice patients and families to provide care and emotional support. The core health care team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, and counselors. Other health care professionals may become a part of the team as needed. Trained hospice volunteers also play a critical role in the delivery of hospice care.

Where are Hospice Services provided?
The Helping Hearts Hospice Program provides hospice care to residents of Daviess, Pike, Martin, and Knox counties.
When can one receive Hospice Care?
Hospice care starts when curative treatment is no longer expected to be effective. Hospice does not hasten or postpone death, but recognizes dying as a normal process. The Helping Hearts Hospice Program seeks to create an environment for the patient and family that allows everyone to derive fulfillment from the remaining days. Normally, hospice care is provided to those who have a life expectancy of six months or less.
How is the Helping Hearts Hospice Program Funded?
Portions of Hospice services are covered by insurance. No one is denied Hospice care because of inability to pay. The Helping Hearts Hospice Program relies on donations from private individuals and businesses to provide quality services to the terminally ill.
