Daviess Community Hospital awarded Grant to Provide Screening Mammograms

Daviess Community Hospital has been awarded a grant from the Evansville Tri-State Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ. The grants were made possible by net proceeds raised primarily from the 2011 Komen Greater Evansville Race for the CureŽ, Bowl for the CureŽ events in Evansville and Owensboro and other supporting fund raisers, individual and corporate donations.

Daviess Community Hospital’s Community Pink Ribbon grant will allow the hospital to provide screening mammograms and education for up to 25 uninsured, low income patients needing service.

DCH will provide digital screening mammograms and education to eligible patients with the Komen grant funds during 2012. Because the digital mammogram doesn’t need to be developed, patients receive results quickly. Physicians can enlarge and enhance the digital image, adjust the contrast, or zoom in on specific areas. With the technology, patients are less likely to have to return for a second test.

Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ is the world's largest breast cancer organization, and the Greater Evansville Affiliate is one of 125 Affiliates on the front lines dedicated to ending breast cancer in their communities. Komen Affiliates fund innovative programs that help women and men overcome the cultural, social, educational and financial barriers to breast cancer screening and treatment.
