Foundation Recoginizes Contributions for Mobile Health Services Vehicle

At a reception at the hospital on Monday evening, the Daviess Community Hospital Foundation Board of Directors recognized donors that made contributions to fund the purchase of a vehicle to transport medical services from the hospital to locations throughout the community.

According to Gary Kendrick, CEO, one use for the new vehicle is to allow DCH to provide ultrasound services to patients outside of the hospital. “Because the unit is portable, patients who are not in good health, either across town, or from their bed, will have the benefit of ultrasound without coming to the hospital for the service,” says Kendrick.

Ultrasound allows excellent assessment of the body’s function beyond what can be seen in a typical X-ray. That allows physicians to make earlier diagnosis, and therefore, initiate earlier treatment. The portable ultrasound unit is a relatively small, lightweight machine. It can be moved to the patient, rather than move the patient to the machine. Patients will be able to undergo investigations into medical problems, including breast, heart, liver, and kidney concerns, without having to undergo further pain and distress to get the ultrasound test at DCH.

Donors for the vehicle project include Eric Bassler, Tara Brower, Sarah Browning, Alan Bubulo, and Mike Cavanaugh with Edward Jones Washington; Bill Dobson with Bill Dobson Ford; Alan Goodwin with Hoosier Insurance and Travel; Julie Helm-Chapman with Hillside Manor and Legends Village; and C.C., Mark, and Jeff Williams with Williams Bros. Healthcare Pharmacy.

Fundraising efforts for the portable ultrasound equipment continue. For more information, contact the hospital’s Foundation office at 254-8858.
