Where:
Check in at the Admitting department. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time of your examination.
Purpose :
To evaluate the appearance and integrity of your bladder and urethra or to evaluate causes of urinary incontinence.
Preparation:
No preparation is necessary. You should empty your bladder before the examination. A parent or a guardian must accompany patients less than 18 years of age. If possible, please do not bring children with you. Be sure that your Doctor’s office has sent an x-ray request form to the Radiology Department or that you bring one with you.
Procedure:
If you are or could possibly be pregnant, please inform the x-ray technologist. A nurse in same surgery will put in a catheter and you will then be transported to the x-ray department, where the Radiologist will fill the bladder with x-ray contrast material also know as x-ray dye. Several x-ray films of your bladder and urethra will be taken. Depending upon the indication for the study and the x-ray findings, the urethral catheter may be removed at the end of this study.

Resume your normal activities. You may feel some irritation in your urethra or bladder after having been catheterized. This is not uncommon or abnormal. You may also see a bit of blood in your urine for a day or two. This will disappear if it is related to the x-ray study. If not, call your doctor. Please call (812) 254-8851 to speak with an x-ray Technologist if you have any questions before or after your examination.
