Please report to the Admitting Office (main hospital entrance) 20 minutes prior to your appointment time. Admitting will direct you to Radiology.
Purpose :
A scan of your heart which looks at the blood supply to the muscle of the heart before and after exercise.
Preparation:
Nothing to eat or drink after mid-night the night prior to your test. All caffeine products should be stopped at least 12 hours prior to your test. All heart medications should be stopped 24 hours prior to the test.
Procedure:
A small I.V. will be started in your vein. A small amount of radioactive material will be given, and after a waiting period we will take “resting” images of your heart. This will establish a baseline of the blood supply to your heart. Then during your stress test, you will be given another injection and after a waiting period “exercise” images will be taken. The results of these two scans will be analyzed and compared for any differences in blood flow. The entire process should take around 3 hours.
