Where:
Report to Admitting Office with lab order. The Admitting Office is located in the front lobby of the hospital. Then, report to the Laboratory.
Purpose :
This test evaluates the filtration of many chemical elements through the kidneys.
Preparation:
Make certain you have a full 24 hours to collect specimen.
Procedure:
Keep specimen container in the refrigerator during the collection period and until it can be delivered to the lab. **Some 24 urine collections require blood draw with them.**

1. Empty the bladder completely on awakening in the morning. DISCARD THAT URINE.
2. Record that date and time on the collection container.
3. Begin collecting all urine passed during the remainder of the day and night. All urine must go into the container. Urine passed during bowel movements must also be collected but take care not to contaminate the urine with the feces as this may adversely affect the test results. If you do miss a urine sample the test must be started over. (You may use the same container; just make sure all urine has been emptied from container).
4. The next AM, end the collection by SAVING what urine you are able to pass at exactly 24 hours after your start time.
5. Bring to the laboratory after finishing the collection.
After Care:
You may resume all normal activities after test. Follow up with your attending physician to discuss results. Results usually are available to the physician in 2 business days.

Please call the Laboratory at (812) 254- 8867 if you have questions.
